Long Long Ago ...
In 1942, Optometrist Dr. Alvin May opened the first Eyecare Practice in the South Bay (San Diego, CA). He was joined by optometrists Dr. Charles Smith in 1951 and by Dr. Daniel L. Mason in 1984. The original location was in historic Downtown Chula Vista on Third Avenue and was named Chula Vista Family Optometry. The Doctors were all active in the local community, church and service organizations, including: Rotary, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Downtown (CV) Association and the San Diego County Optometric Society.
In 1953, Optometrist Dr. William Nelson began private practice also on Third Avenue Chula Vista. He was joined in 1959 by Dr. Keith Wilson and then in 1969 by Dr. Robert Wold.
In 1991, these two practices merged into one large practice and the founding fathers retired with only Drs. Wold and Mason remaining active. That same year they opened a satellite office at the Bonita Point Plaza to serve the growing population in East Chula Vista. This office was named Bonita Point Family Optometry. At that time the Eastern portion of Chula Vista was just starting to grow and Eastlake Village was the only housing section open.
What was once a quiet satelite office that could accommodate part time professional care had grown to the point that in 1996 Dr. Mason became full time and sole proprieter of Bonita Point Family Optometry. At a time when most other professionals were getting into larger offices with less personal service the decision was made to provide the type of care that had allowed our practices to thrive since the early 1940's.
Sept 03, 2010 our office will be moving it's location to 180 Otay Lakes Rd., Suite 201, Bonita, CA 91902. This location is 1/2 block south of the corner of Otay Lakes Rd. and Bonita Rd. in the Bonita Professional Plaza building. The location will be easier access to the 805 and 54 freeways for our patients coming from outside the local area. It will also allow us to have two examination rooms and expand our optical dispensary. We look forward to the new location and hope that it will be an improvement for our patients.
